Patty Johnson

Reason for Nomination:

Patty Johnson is a 68-year-old precious handicapped woman who suffers with multiple sclerosis. Patty is entirely dependent upon her aide(s) to transfer her from her bed to her chair twice daily. Patty has no use whatsoever with her legs and/or feet. The use of her hands has begun to deteriorate, which makes holding a piece of paper difficult.
Patty’s home is in severe need of repairs all over the house. The tile floor in her home is cracking in several places, which causes her chair to “get stuck” while trying to maneuver around in her home. Her home is currently not in a state to allow her to move about freely without the worry of harm to herself. Her bathroom serves as her “kitchen” as she can scoot up to the vanity in her chair and wash her dishes. The true kitchen is in need of several repairs – sink, disposal, oven, et cetera. She cannot function as a disabled woman in her kitchen at present. The ramp to her backyard is falling apart. She is known to get stuck in the backyard when her chair wheel(s) falls into a hole.

Patty’s home is open to people who society doesn’t wish to “see and/or deal with.” Patty currently has three other people living in her home, none of whom function at a level of maintaining normal employment and/or the ability/capability to do the repairs around her home. She would love to “add on” to her house. If she had more space, she would allow others to live in her home as well. Patty’s (and her tenants’) financial livelihood is from SSDI – the “D” stands for disability. The amount of monthly income is incredibly limited and on poverty level.

Patty is an amazing woman who praises God daily and has accepted her disabilities with the most beautiful attitude. Patty is so grateful and positive. Patty holds Bible study in her home weekly. Patty is totally dependent upon MITS transportation to be able to leave her home.

Condition of the Home:

The home is in severe need of repairs. Tile floor cracked in several places and there is no tile in some places. The kitchen sink disposal is missing, which creates a hole and water running under the sink. Walls damaged throughout home and in need of repair. Patty’s bathroom (which serves as her kitchen) needs to be re-vamped to accommodate her disabilities without losing her storage. The wooden ramp leading to the backyard is rotting and in need of repair. I do not know the current status of her roof, as I have not been on the roof.

Sandra Young

Reason for Nomination:

Sandra has cerebral palsy since birth. For years now she has also had myasthenia gravis, a very debilitating condition, and epilepsy. She is 51 years old and is confined to a wheelchair and/or a scooter. She has no relatives that are willing/capable of helping. Her parents are both deceased. As her Dad’s health and eyesight begin to decline 5 or 6 years ago, the roof of their home had deteriorated to the point that leaks caused part of the ceiling to collapse. After her Dad died she was able to get some kind of help to get the roof replaced, That was in 2016, I believe. Then in the spring of 2017, the Mesquite area was hit with a severe hail storm. The roof was damaged and begin leaking again. more of the ceiling has fallen. She did get a very small inheritance and spent most of that doing some remodeling to make the house more compatible with her disabilities, but has no resources to repair the newest issues. Her M/G often prevents her from being able to speak or move readily. I have helped a lot as a friend, but my age prevents me from being able to do the work. Her only income is from Social Security Disability.

Condition of the Home:

I have looked at the roof and it shows severe bruising from the hail and 2 of the leaks seem to be in 2 of the valleys. There are at least 2 others. The decking seems ok. The house also has some drain/sewer issues. the greatest need is the roof and of course repair where the ceiling has fallen into the house. I am submitting photos of the valley areas, bruising, and 2 areas of the ceiling that are damaged

Jackie Breedlove

Reason for Nomination:

I am pleased to nominate Jackie Breedlove for the home repairs needed at her residence. Jackie is truly a light for God. She projects a warm, cheerful attitude to everyone she meets. Jackie goes out of her way to help people in need whether its family or community. Jackie would never ask for any help, she feels completely blessed with what she has been given. Unfortunately, Jackie is 70 years of age and has several health issues she is battling. Jackie’s home is still livable, however her home is in disrepair simply bc she cant find a financial solution. The repairs overtime have remained untouched and the problems continue to get worse. Jackie loves people with Gods heart (open to anyone), she still works hard (when possible) and always tries to lift the spirits of those around her. Jackie is easily the most compassionate person I know, the kind of person who goes out of her way to help the less fortunate everyday. Through my personal experience with Jackie, she offered me a place to live and family support while battling a divorce. This is how I discovered the much needed repairs of her home. Jackie has taken care of her entire family in this home including brother, mother, father, children (not birthed), grandchildren and others. Jackie has always treated everyone as her own and loved on them without question. Jackie struggles to survive on SSI each month and has a very limited income (not to mention her heath and age). Please accept my nomination for Jackie Breedlove. I cant think of any one more deserving of this repair than Jackie 🙂

Condition of the Home:

Build 1978, home is in desperate need of several repairs. The main concern is the bathroom area. It appears there was a leak of some kind in the bathroom area and this has caused a lot of damages in the walls and etc… The house has 2 bathrooms, however the main bathroom is not being used due to the repairs needed. The master bathroom (entire family uses) is not in good working condition due to them being connected somehow and they are both affected. The sockets are of concern as well, most of them are not functioning throughout the house (living rm, most walls, back porch (for safety). Of course the bathroom is priority, however if we could provider her home with a couple of working sockets she would be so happy.
